History/Overview
For more than 20 years, the Hyundai Santa Fe has been among Canada’s favourite mid-size SUV models. The current fourth-generation design arrived for the 2019 model year and received a styling refresh last year. For 2022, the Santa Fe carries over with no changes.
Available Trims
Hyundai offers the Santa Fe in Essential, Preferred, Urban, and Ultimate Calligraphy trim levels. All are powered by 2.5L four-cylinder engines, with Urban and Ultimate Calligraphy adding a turbo for more performance. Base models use an eight-speed automatic transmission, and turbo versions get an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. AWD is standard across the range.
Standard Features
Santa Fe Essential comes equipped with a tech suite that includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and wireless smartphone integration. Among the Santa Fe’s comfort and convenience features are heated front seats, and a heated/leather-trimmed steering wheel. Cosmetically, the Santa Fe comes with 18-inch aluminum wheels and auto on/off LED headlights.
Essential’s safety kit comprises forward collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection and automatic braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, driver attention warning, and automatic high beams.
Preferred trim adds, among other things, blind spot warning with collision avoidance, rear cross traffic collision avoidance, safe exit assist, rear occupant alert, rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, passive keyless entry, a power driver’s seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and front and rear skid plates.
Urban trim adds the turbo engine and a variety of cosmetic items, including 19-inch wheels.
Finally, Ultimate Calligraphy trim brings front parking sensors, rear parking collision avoidance, a blind spot camera, highway driving assist, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation, a 12-speaker stereo, surround view cameras, Nappa leather seating, head-up driver display, ambient cabin lighting, 20-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, hands-free tailgate operation, remote smart parking assist, and power-folding side mirrors.
Key Options
A Preferred Trend package bundles a panoramic sunroof, leather seating, LED taillights, a power front passenger seat, remote-folding second-row seats, and LED interior lighting.
Fuel Economy
Hyundai’s fuel consumption estimates for the Santa Fe are 11.0/8.5 L/100 km (city/highway), or 10.6/9.3, depending on your choice of turbo or non-turbo engine.
Competition
The Santa Fe competes for buyers’ attention with the Honda Pilot, Toyota RAV4, Subaru Outback, Ford Edge, Chevrolet Blazer, Kia Sorento, and Nissan Murano.
